#1 Scavenger Hunt: The Human Genome
Rachel Harte, Kate Rosenbloom, Heather Trumbower, Ann Zweig, Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering, UCSC
Genes determine your eye color, height, and even how healthy you are. Search through human, chimpanzee, mouse and fish DNA and find genes! Prerequisite: 1 year of high school biology
-
#5 Programming the Nano Mouse
Laura Chiticariu, Jessica Gronski, Computer Science Graduate Program, UCSC
Learn simple programming and engineering concepts while teaching an electronic mouse how to run! Have fun watching the "nano mouse" obey your commands! (The nanomice are graciously provided by the UCSC SOE Honor Society).
-
#6 Simulating Planet Smashing
Adrienne Traxler, Applied Math and Statistics Graduate Program, UCSC
Giant impacts helped form our solar system. See how computers are used to model these collisions, and smash some planets of your
own.
-
#16 Red Light! Green Light!
Martine Schlag, Professor, Computer Engineering, UCSC
