From Male-Identified Misogynist to Sexiest Geek Alive: My journey as a woman in computer science
May 9, 2007 11AM, Engineering 2 Building, Room 599
The talk will be followed by lunch 12PM-1PM, same location

Speaker: Ellen Spertus, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Mills College

Abstract:
In our culture, the term "female scientist" is often viewed as an incongruity, if not as a contradiction in terms. I grew up believing that such a person had to be deficient either as a woman or as a scientist and possibly at both. I describe how I changed my beliefs and embraced both my feminism and geekiness. I will also discuss my career, such as deciding among and blending research and teaching in academic and industrial settings.
